Experience a 2 day extreme rafting adventure on
the class IV & V Royal Gorge and Numbers of the Arkansas River
in Colorado. This extreme adventure trip includes:
Full Day Royal Gorge Trip (with lunch)
Lodging at the Woodland Motel in Salida
Full Day Numbers Trip (with lunch)
Day 1 - Royal Gorge Full Day
You'll begin your extreme rafting experience by warming
up in the morning on Bighorn Sheep Canyon, where you'll enjoy Class III/III+ rapids such as Three
Rocks, Spikebuck and Shark's tooth. After your riverside
lunch, you will raft through
the Royal Gorge, under the highest suspension bridge
in the world, and through the 1000+ foot high walls of
the Gorge, enjoying continuous
class III to V rapids such as Sunshine Falls, Sledgehammer
and Boateater.
Then, enjoy a night at the comfortable Woodland Motel in Salida, where you are
a short distance from both the river, and the restaurants,
galleries and stores of historic downtown Salida. From
the Woodland Motel
you have an excellent view of the surrounding 14,000-foot
high Peaks of the Rocky Mountains in the Arkansas River
Valley.
Day 2 - The Numbers Full Day
Your trip starts out North of Buena Vista at
over 8500 feet in elevation. Here the river is narrow
and technical and runs cold and fast. There are six class
IV & V
rapids in The Numbers, numbered from 1 to 6. Between
the named rapids are plenty
of class III rapids to keep everyone busy. After a stop
for lunch, you will continue through Wildhorse Canyon.
This section of the
Arkansas River provides continuous and exciting class
III and III+ whitewater through rapids such as Frog Rock,
House Rock, the Buena
Vista Whitewater Park and several others.
Minimum 4 people required. Minimum age 18. Due
to the extreme nature of this trip, and the level
of difficulty, it is not recommended for timid or
inexperienced participants. Good physical condition
is required and previous paddling experience is recommended.
